What is uVite?

uVite is a great way to get a group of your friends together for activities that you love to do. Send a uVite to a group of your friends inviting them to do something together. You set the number of people that you need to attend in order for the event to be worthwhile, as well as an RSVP deadline. If enough people “opt-in” before the deadline, then the event is ON. If not, the event is OFF and you’re not left wondering if it’s on or not.

How does it work?

When you have an awesome idea of something that you and your group of friends should do together, send them a uVite! Assign your friends to groups based on the sorts of activities you do together: a group for your drinking buddies, running friends, your study group, etc. Make a uVite for your event, like “Brunch this Saturday at 10 AM” and send it to whichever groups you want. Part of creating a uVite is selecting a minimum amount of people who need to come, as well as a deadline for everyone to respond by. You can also set a maximum capacity of people who can join. If not enough people say they’ll come to your event by the deadline you set, the uVite app will call the event OFF and send everyone a notification. But if you meet your goal, the event is ON and everyone will get a notification saying so (other than the party poopers who said they wouldn’t come, they get nothing).

How do I create a new uVite?

Tap “Create New uVite” on the main screen, or “Create uVite” in the left sidebar menu. Enter an event name, location, start time, and end time (optional). You can enter additional details about the event as well as an image. Next, choose which friends or groups of friends you’d like to uVite by clicking on the + symbol next to the guest list. (When you first open the app, it will connect to your phone’s address book and add your contacts to the app address book.) Select the groups and friends by tapping “Add Guest.” If you think a certain amount of people need to be there, select the minimum amount of guests and set a date that everyone needs to respond by. Press send and each of the people you selected will get an alert or email based on their settings, or an Email or SMS (text message) if they aren’t on uVite yet. The event will only be “ON” if enough people reply positively before the expiration date. If not enough people opt in, then your event will be “OFF.”

What are the expiration time and minimum guests options for?

The expiration time is the time that the uVite will expire unless the minimum number of guests (a number you have selected) has responded saying they are “IN.”

What happens if not enough people reply “IN” by the expiration date/time?

If not enough people have responded "IN" by the expiration date/time, then the event is OFF.

How do I change the expiration date for an event I already sent out?

If the expiration date/time has not already passed, you can click on the pencil icon in the upper right of your sent uVite to go into edit mode and change the expiration date/time.

What does the maximum guests option do?

The maximum guests option is used if there is a limit to the number of people who can attend your event? For example, if you’re playing poker you want at least 6 people, but no more than 12, so you would set the maximum to 12. Once the maximum is reached, Guests will see that the event is “Full”. A guest can always change from “IN” to “OUT”, but a guest can only go “IN” if the maximum has not been reached.

What if I need an exact number of people at an event, like a foursome for golf?

If you are looking to have an exact number of people at an event, you simply set the minimum and maximum to the same number. Once the minimum is reached, the event is “ON”, and since the maximum has also been reached, the event is also “FULL” so no one else would be able to join.

How do I add my friends to uVite?

When you first open the application, it will go your phone address book and download your contacts. If your contacts are already on uVite, they will be highlighted in green on the Guest List and Add Contacts screens. You can also invite them to download the uVite app by clicking on “Tell Friends about uVite” screen.

What happens if my friends don’t have the uVite app?

The uVite app syncs with your phone's address book, so if your friends aren’t on uVite, their names will still appear on the Add Guests page next to their email or mobile number. When you select those friends to be added to the uVite and then press “Send,” they will either get an email or text message with a link to the uVite in a web version. The web version of the app is only for viewing and responding to uVites, so they will be able to respond, add guests and use the group chat function. If you have turned off the ability for guests to invite others or have group chat, then they will not see these screens.

Be sure to respond before the expiration date if the host has set one. Depending on the minimum or maximum guests, you may or may not be able to change your response after you have submitted it.

I said I was IN, but now I need to cancel. What do I do?

You can change your response from IN to OUT, if the minimum has not been reached, or if changing your response would not bring the number of guests below the minimum. Once the minimum has been reached and the event is ON, you’ll have to contact the Host or find a replacement if dropping out would have brought the number of people below the minimum.

I tried to change my reply, but it says I’m too late. Why?

There are several possible reasons for this. Your “IN” response may have been crucial in the amount of RSVPs to reach the minimum amount of guests needed for the event to be ON, an amount that was set by the event’s host. If you change your mind now, the hosts and other guests will have to scramble to find a replacement. In this case, we recommend that you contact the Host directly and make arrangements outside of the app. Another reason might be that the event is already full and has reached is maximum capacity, another amount that was set by the event’s host. Lastly, it may be that the event is already over.

How do I invite other people to someone else’s event?

The host can decide whether he or she wants guests to be able to invite others to their event. If the host has allowed you to, you can invite additional guests by tapping the + symbol next to the guest list and selecting the friends you'd like to invite.

Why can’t I invite other people to someone else’s events sometimes?

The host can decide whether he or she wants guests to be able to invite others. If they’ve decided that they’d rather you didn’t invite more people, you will not see the option to within the event page.

Why can’t I see the guest list to an event?

The host can decide whether he or she wants guests to be able to see the guest list. If they’ve decided they don’t want you to see the guest list, you will not be able to.

Why is group chat turned off for some events?

The host can decide whether he or she wants to use the group chat. If they’ve decided against it, you will not see the option to group chat.
